Come to Sound View to feel like you’re at summer camp again – pet a llama, sing some songs around the campfire, take a guided nature walk through our property, and shoot an arrow!
Sound View Camp is owned and operated by the Presbytery of Olympia (PCUSA). The camp consists of 100 acres of woods, trails, and a sandy beach. Sound View Camp provides rental opportunities and educational programs for groups, as well as running their own summer family and youth programs, open to the public.
As part of our brand-new Outdoor Environmental Education Program, camp has begun a mini-farm and garden for teaching sustainable living. We plan to see the farm grow over the next few years, with programs for kids to learn to plant and harvest their own food. The former horse stable and corral area has been converted into a miniature farm populated with rescued goats, sheep, chickens, and a llama. We love to see visitors interact with animals and learn about their care.

In its fifteenth year, Fiber Arts – Threads Through Time is held at the LIC Clubhouse and at the LIC Marina, in conjunction with the Key Peninsula Farm Tour, the oldest Farm Tour in Pierce County. The Fiber Arts Show features more than two dozen artists who demonstrate, exhibit and sell their work. The full gamut of fibers, utilizing traditional techniques and modern adaptations, is on display during the one day festival. There is music at the Clubhouse throughout the day. The LIC is the shuttle hub for the south loop Farm Tour host sites: Two Fox Winery, Grateful Goat Farms, and the Key Peniunsula Community Services. Shuttle service is provided through School-Bus-Connects.
Inside our unique clubhouse, vendor displays include quilts, hats, bags, handwoven baskets, buttons, clothing, jewelry, rugs, wall hangings, table decorations, hand tooled leather craft, embroidery, wearable art from silk, alpaca fur and wood, Hardanger or whitework embroidery and more! Demonstrator displays include weaving, spinning and cross stitch. Outside on the LIC grounds there are antique tractors to emphasize our connection to the Farm Tour. In addition, local Girl Scout troops demonstrate how to use yard trimmings to build fencing for compost bins. Of special interest, yard art, furniture and wood sculptures are available for purchase.
Only items made by the artists themselves are available for sale. Admission to the event is free. Lunch is available for purchase. Support for Fiber Arts is through the volunteer LIC Fiber Arts Committee. Money is raised through booth and food sales. Additional support comes from Angel Guild, Bruce Titus Automotive Group, Friends of Pierce County Library and the KP Farm Council.
This year’s featured artist is Peter Rowe who spins, knits and crochets and will have his creations on display at the event. Peter has participated at the Puyallup Fair and has several first-place ribbons and received the Grand Champions’ awards in 2019 and 2020.
Peter lives in Kitsap County and started knitting in 2005 with a scarf based on a DNA pattern. Looking for more challenging patterns, he started to work on Estonian Lace, followed by knitted lace patterns by Herbert Niebling. Peter finished his first tablecloth in 2012 and has been knitting and crocheting ever since. Most of his projects have been gifted to friends and family members. His knitting projects include hats, scarves, sweaters, mittens, socks, hats and “stuffies” (stuffed animals) that were gifted to his nieces.
